Project Sabre is being built for Sparky at RnD Fabrication, a local company that manufactures very high quality aluminum radiators, valve covers, and catch cans for a variety of applications. The basis of the project is a 1971 Oldsmobile Cutlass 'S'. The main goal for this project is to be a platform to display their products in use, that can also be used competitively at the autocross tracks. The intent of the project’s buildup is to build a very streetable and usable Pro-Touring Muscle Car that anyone can replicate with a little planning and elbow grease. This will not be an overpowered, overpriced car that spends all of its time at shows and on trailers. It is meant to be driven, and driven hard! We’ll be using a 6.0 LQ4 truck engine, with a Comp Cams valvetrain and BRP/Musclerods mounts and headers, backed by a T56 from a 4th generation Camaro.  The car will have a RideTech coilover suspension, featuring their StrongArm control arms.

There are quite a few great folks involved with this build, including Jason Rushforth of Rushforth Wheels, Bret Voelkel of RideTech, and many others. We will be documenting the entire build from start to finish, so that everyone can see exactly what we used and why, here:

Current Projects
Yes, another Olds in the shop! Project Lonestar  just arrived from Texas this week. What started as an engine swap candidate is looking like a full buildup, and we can't wait to get started on it. Lonestar is currently powered by an Olds 350/TH2004R combo, but that is going to be pulled in favor of the new GMPP LS376/525hp crate engine! For those not familiar with it, it is one of GMPP's newest crate offerings, and is essentially the same as the LS376/480hp engine we used in Project Grocery Getter, but instead of the LS "Hot Cam" it comes with the ASA cam, which has the same lift but more duration. The engine is Part # 19259233. We'll be backing it with a 4L70E transmission. As in most of our swap projects, we'll use the GMPP Musclecar oil pan kit #19212593, and BRP/Musclerods mounts and BRP/Hedman long tube headers. Thanks to Jeff Tate at Day's Chevrolet for his help!  We hope to have this one finished in time for the Hot Rod Power Tour in June of 2012.

We're planning suspension and brake upgrades, too, but the details are still being worked out!
